Cherry Aerospace, also known as the Cherry Rivet Company, was an American fastener manufacturing company founded in 1940. Filing a patent for the Cherry Rivet prior to the establishment of the company, founder Carl Cherry used their experience from MIT and mechanical engineering to solve the industry issue of only having access to one side of aircraft assemblies that require riveting. With the use of Cherry Rivets in particular, blind hole installation is made easy. Since the formation of the company, Cherry Rivets have rapidly expanded in popularity and have become a common component of countless aircraft installations. In 1951, Townsend acquired the Cherry Rivet Company, later being acquired again by Textron in 1959. After Textron’s 1995 purchase of Avdel, Cherry Rivet Company was merged to create Textron Aerospace Fasteners. After further consolidations, mergers, and a 2007 sale to Precision Castparts Corp, Cherry Aerospace rivet products have since been a part of PCC Fastener Products leading into the present.
