Electric Aircrafts Developed by IAI
Established 65 years ago, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is the major aerospace and aviation manufacturer for both military and civil customers in Israel. The company is completely owned by the government of Israel. IAI’s principal priority is aviation and high technology electronics, additionally it manufacturers military systems for ground and naval forces.
IAI started creating green energy solutions for the future evolution of electrically powered aircrafts, integrating environmental advantages along with longer ranges, toleration and remarkable fuel cost savings. Estimated to fly around in three years, Israel Aerospace Industries will develop an all – electric aircraft.
Details about the project are kept confidential, but IAI revealed that the new aircraft will have a limit of take – off weight of 4530 – 6800 kg, also it can be compared with the size of a Beechcraft King Air 350. The aircraft’s main duty will be inter – city operations, with a range of 500 nm, opposed to 1800 nm for the King Air.
Moshe Medina, vice-president and director of IAI's engineering and development division says,
“The aviation world is about to enter a new era of electric propulsion. The rapid development of electric power sources is accelerating in the cellular worlds and electric vehicles, along with a significant improvement in the reliability and efficiency of electric motors, making the electric plane the next thing in the world of aviation”.
In the last few years, IAI has been investing in the research and development of electric power systems for automatic aircrafts.
Israel Aerospace Industries is contemplating prospective collaborations with beginner companies to work together in the evolution of electrically powered aircrafts.
