F-35C Outer Wings Redesign to Carry AIM-9X
The Raytheon AIM-9X is the primary weapon for the F-35. However, there is a bit of a setback with these new weapons. During the test flights with the new weapons, the F-35 pilots experienced increased turbulence. The needs for stronger wings to carry the AIM-9Xs were expressed and the existing wings were too weak to support the new dog-fighting weapon. Engineers have already developed a new outer wing that is tougher, but it must pass the flight test before the wings are officially manufactured.
As with all upgrades, there will be complications because the aircraft part supplier and manufacturers only build and plan for the existing aircrafts. However, this is only a short obstacle as people can upgrade and update their designs and productions.
The wings were not the only setbacks from this new upgrade, as the weapons themselves have undergone their own various trials. Similarly, these upgrades usually have more upgrades than time can allow, and these visions will ultimately slow down the process of production, completion, and release.
For instance, the longing for the AIM-9X to seek a moving target is definitely slowing down the process of when these missiles will be complete. Nevertheless, the new addition will be a great addition to the military. As our technology increases, many aircraft suppliers will continue to upgrade their inventory to accommodate these changes and all aircrafts will continue to improve.
